Worth knowing
Deerberg; cover, cost and conditions
Eleven model ranges span the years 1965 to 1998, among them sailing yachts such as Beryll, Amethyst, Rubin, Saphir and Saphir III, the sailing boat Stony 20, the Delta 36 and the motor yacht Caravelle. Boats from those years change hands privately today, and a purchase involves more than the price agreed.
For disputes following the purchase of a used boat or with a shipyard we also offer legal expenses cover for water sports. It applies where questions about the condition arise after handover. Cover for the boat itself begins, independently of that, with third-party liability and the two hull insurance covers.
The year of construction is no obstacle to cover, because we insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. In full hull cover the value is recorded as an agreed value and replaced with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff without an age limit for the boat.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does the insurance help with disputes after the purchase?
That is what the legal expenses cover for water sports is for, which we offer alongside. It is tailored to disputes after the purchase of a used boat or with a shipyard.
Does the number of previous owners of a boat matter?
Not for insurability. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners; what counts are the type of boat, value, propulsion and cruising range.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
