Worth knowing
Hurley; cover, cost and conditions
Seventeen model ranges are on record, among them the Hurley 22 from 1964, the Hurley 38 from 1971 to 1981, the 700 and the 750 from the eighties as well as the 800 classic and the 830, which is listed up to 2008. Almost all years of construction lie far in the past, which makes the agreed value the decisive point of full hull cover.
The value and the equipment are set down before the policy begins, and in the event of a claim the indemnity is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old). In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit, so that hulls from the sixties also receive hull insurance.
Some of the ranges are listed as sailing yachts, others as sailing boats. The premium follows the type of boat, the value, the year of construction, the sail area and the cruising range, never the make. Club races are included from Basis-Plus onwards, and you state races with scoring status when you take out the policy.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can a Hurley 22 from 1970 still get full hull cover?
In the Premium tariff full hull cover applies with no age limit. Indemnity is paid according to the agreed value, with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), including collision, grounding and vandalism.
What does limited hull cover include for an older sailing boat?
Fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the entire boat and damage in winter storage. The cover also applies during craning, during launching and while the boat is being transported.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
