Williams Jet Tenders; cover, cost and conditions
Williams Jet Tenders builds jet-driven tenders in England, tenders tailored to the stern garage of a yacht that manoeuvre safely among swimmers because there is no propeller. The jet drive is the structural difference and at the same time the point that shapes the hull insurance: no propeller means no propeller damage, but an impeller that is exposed to intake damage.
Intake damage in shallow water counts as operational damage and is not covered; a jet drive that draws in sand or gravel wears more quickly, and that is a question of handling. Consequential damage to the drive after grounding or collision is covered. When landing on a beach, pay attention to the intake area; on jet tenders this is the most sensitive spot and the most frequent avoidable damage.
As the tender of a yacht, a Williams is covered at no extra premium up to a value limit if it is stated in the application. With the larger models with a diesel jet this limit is exceeded, and then the tender belongs in the contract as a separate item. Damage while launching with the davit and while stowing it in the garage is covered, because craning and launching are expressly included.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is intake damage to the jet drive covered?
No, sand and gravel in the intake area are operational damage. Consequential damage to the drive after grounding or collision is covered under full hull cover.
Is the tender included in the yacht policy?
Up to a value limit at no extra premium, if it is stated in the application. Larger models with a diesel jet belong in the contract as a separate item.

Series by Williams, with value and cover
Dieseljet 445 / 505 is an inflatable with engine from Williams, built since 2012, and today changes hands at between €90,000 and €190,000.
Minijet 280 is an inflatable with engine from Williams, built since 2015, and today changes hands at between €30,000 and €55,000.
Turbojet 285 / 325 is an inflatable with engine from Williams, built since 2005, and today changes hands at between €35,000 and €90,000.
Sportjet 435 / 520 is an inflatable with engine from Williams, built since 2012, and today changes hands at between €70,000 and €180,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
