Sailing boats and motorboats stand side by side here, on the one hand Pirat, Pea 22, Pea 32, Pea 60 and Rustler 36, on the other Dalos 19, Dalos 22 and Dalos 40, with years of construction from 1988 to 2017. With the sailing boats it is the sail area rather than the engine output that counts towards the premium.
For motorboats the opposite applies and the engine output counts. In both cases the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range are added, while the brand stays out of it. Club races are included from Basis-Plus onwards, and races with ranking status are registered when you take out the policy.
The most recent years of construction are 2017, so these are used boats throughout. We insure irrespective of the year of construction, the place of purchase and previous owners, full hull cover indemnifies by way of an agreed value with no deduction for depreciation and, in the Premium tariff, with no age limit.

Frequent questions
How does the premium differ for a sailing boat and a motorboat?
With a sailing boat the sail area counts, with a motorboat the engine output. The remaining factors are the type of boat, the value, the year of construction and the cruising range. The scope of cover stays the same in both cases.
Are races included?
Club races are covered from the Basis-Plus tariff onwards. Races with ranking status are stated when you take out the policy, so that they can be taken into account in the contract.

Licence
A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).
Registration
Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
